How much does it cost to repair a bike in Bali?

A bike is an almost indispensable means of transportation on the island. You can go to the beach, the store, the café, and even on trips. With such active use, some damage or problems with the bike are sometimes inevitable.

Bike rental companies always offer damage insurance as an additional option.

Many people, hoping to save money, do not purchase insurance and rely on their careful riding style and good karma.

Today, we'll talk about how much it costs to repair a bike and why insuring it is beneficial.

Who should definitely get insurance for bike damage?

Of course, beginner drivers. If you are just getting started with this type of transportation or simply not very confident in your skills, be sure to get damage insurance.

You will definitely have at least minor incidents with the bike: scratching the plastic somewhere, misjudging dimensions and denting, losing balance and toppling, etc. All of this will cost more to repair than the insurance premium.

Also, if you're on vacation, want to relax, and don't want to worry about any bike damage or the repair bill later, get insurance and enjoy your vacation worry-free.

Why get insurance?

Bali has a heavy traffic flow: the driving can be aggressive, there are frequent traffic jams where many try to squeeze through, leading to minor incidents: scratching the bike or grazing the plastic.

Additionally, there are parking issues on the island: bikes are parked very tightly together, which also leads to damage.

So even if you are experienced and drive very carefully, in Bali, it's easy to scratch a bike without being at fault.

How much does it cost to repair a bike in Bali?

So, let's get to the main point - the cost of repairs.

On average, the cost of replacing a single plastic part for many bike models is 120,000 - 200,000 IDR.

The plastic parts are not painted but replaced completely...so if you scratch the bike a bit, the part won't just be 'touched up'; it will be replaced. If the scratch spans two parts, both will be replaced.

Replacing one headlight: from 700,000 IDR.

Replacing the front fork: from 1,500,000 IDR.

Again, note that these are average prices and the cost of the spare parts, excluding labor.

For models like the Honda Scoopy and Honda PCX, repairs usually cost more (generally, Honda parts are more expensive than Yamaha).

Where to repair a bike in Bali?

In Russia, we're used to the stereotype that it's always expensive to repair a vehicle at an official dealer. However, this is not the case in Bali.

Small workshops and garages in Bali buy parts from official services, so the cost of parts is certainly not lower.

Additionally, official dealers usually have a larger stock of spare parts than garage services, so your two-wheeled friend will be repaired faster. Apart from spare parts, official services always have the necessary tools and experience to carry out repairs.

With the same or even lower prices than some garages, why compromise on quality?

What to do if you damage a bike and don't have insurance?

Unfortunately, this is a common situation. We advise going to an official service and finding out the full repair cost from them.

With this knowledge, contact your rental company and ask for their repair cost. If the rental's offer is lower than the official service price, agree to it. If higher, negotiate to the official price. Often, paying for the repair through your rental can be more advantageous, as it saves time and hassle.
