Route to the village of the dead

This place is quite unusual. All of the skulls and remains are real humans, so there is enough sinister energy there.

We leave Denpasar and drive up towards Kintamani. Take a main road - there is a ticket sales point on it. The ticket costs 50k rupees per person. There will be no bargaining, they will give you a receipt.

If you got hungry - you can stop at a beautiful place ? Paperhills. It’s not expensive and offers an amazing view to the lake and volcano.

Drive further to the Trunyan village. The road goes along the coast of Lake Batur. When you enter the village - get ready that locals might ask for money. You can give it or not - it’s up to you.

Go to the pier and look for someone who will take you on a boat.

Crossing the lake

The boat costs 1 million rupiah round trip including tickets. Two paddlers will take you to the cemetery. It will take about 15 minutes, so it's fast but not scary. The more people - the cheaper the boat will cost for everyone. We bargained for 650k in the end, there were four of us. Everyone got a life jacket.

When you are moored at the cemetery, you have to register yourself. Just write the name in a notebook. Then you are free to go to the most famous place. There are skulls stacked on a hill under a huge tree. The skulls are real, many people leave coins there.

In fact, it is a quiet and atmospheric place. This is a truly unique cemetery.

Cemetery with skulls

Then back to the boat, in 15 minutes you are back in the village. As you can see, only the road takes a lot of time, everything else is pretty fast.
